Hair restoration when it comes to women is actually a different ball game than it is when talking about men. There are some drugs and remedies that women are just not allowed to partake in. For example, finasteride is a very important hair loss remedy for men but women can not use it because of the possibility of birth defects. Another remedy that works for men and not women is Saw Palmetto extract. This extract from the 3 foot tall Saw Palmetto palm has been used for years as a treatment for male urinary tract problems. Like finasteride, there is a potential for birth defects predominantly in male babies when this extract is used. Although the correlation is not 100% it is really not worth taking the chance.
One drug that can be used as a hair restoration for women is minoxidil. This product is usually sold as Rogaine but it can be found under other trade names. This product is rubbed on the scalp twice a day and coutneracts the effects of female pattern hair loss.
